Crazy Rich Asians

I have liked watching Constance Wu since I first saw her on Fresh Off the Boat.
I don't watch the show regularly, but it is always a joy whenever I happen to catch a few scenes here and there.
It was with that same enthusiasm that I entered the theater Friday night to watch Crazy Rich Asians.
It was a very romantic movie. A very, very romantic movie. Sorry, did I mention it was romantic?
There is something so wow-some about a relationship where there is an inequality in almost everything but love, and that love is able to conquer all. Kind of reminds me of God's love.
And that wedding scene y'all? I melted into a puddle of "awws" and "oh wows."

Overall outlook: some of the acting was a little overboard for my taste, but all in all, it was the fun feel-good-Cinderalla-type movie that we all know and love.

Blind by Limoblaze

Limoblaze is the equivalent of 10 Mr. Bingleys, and he is all that a gentleman (ahem, Christian singer) should be.
I recently stumbled upon his songs on Spotify. I am not exaggerating when I say that I am a little reluctant to listen to other artists because I am afraid that they would pale in comparison, and my Jane Bennet sensibility cannot handle that.

Every Limoblaze song is like a bar of Twix chocolate: a beautiful brown exterior filled with creamy caramel goodness and crunchy biscuit on the inside; just because the music is sweet does not mean the lyrics are not hard-hitting.

Album Title: Blind
Released in: 2016 (I don't know what rock I have been living under.)

Intro: This track is not a song, but an introduction to the album title and its meaning. If only all I could focus on was God's love and be blind to everything else...
Blind: Okay, this track was IT. "I don't see nothing but Your love; I'm blind." It earned the right to be a titular track. I do not claim to be a musical expert, but the moments just before the second chorus when the music swells and the drums kick in, my heart swells along with the rhythm. As if my heart is expanding as it accepts a reality where it is only focused on God's love. I. Love. This. Track.
Speechless: This song is catchy and the reggae infusion just takes it over the edge. I'm speechlessly in wonder of a God who created these beats through Limoblaze.
With God: I can't with this track. The rhymes. The beat. "Whatever, whatever it takes, I'ma do it." Where was I in 2016 that I did not know about this song?
Jekotan (Let it Shine): The intro to this track, though. This is one of my favorites from this album. "You want to play with God, abi? You want to try your luck abi? And do your winchi-winchi, abi?"
Hope: Thank you for this track, Limoblaze. Thank you for not being afraid to address child rape. For not shying away from telling those who might just need it most that there is hope at the finish line. We will be fine and smile at the finish line.
Kachifonu: I understand that this title literally means "good night." All my haters, issues, and problems, Limoblaze said I should tell you good night.
Interlude: I am not sure I understand this interlude. I need help here.
Forever: First, can we talk about those drops of water for a second, like...what?!!! With this track, it's like God said to Limoblaze, "take these words and sing them. They will be the words on Ronke's heart in September 2018." Now I realize why I am just finding Limoblaze: I was not ready in 2016.
My City: In the United States, there is a separation of church and state as if we are capable of successfully ruling ourselves without the Word. Laughable. Anyway, it's why I like this track. For the city-state to be free of ills, the city has to be saved by the Word.
Eledumare: "Yahweh! Don't mind if I call You Daddy..." Every flipping song on this album is a hit single. In Limoblaze's words, this can only be God. There is no other sane explanation.
Chilling: You know that song that you want to have playing on your car's speakers as you drive down the expressway with your windows down? Chilling is that song. "Oh my God, I am chilling." Limoblaze delivers the lines in this song in such a laidback, chill manner (pun fully intended), making you want to take his advice to chill - because God is in control.
Oh My God: Once this four-minute-yummy-goodness comes on, it is impossible to sit still. If the goal of this song was to make you say "Oh my God," in wonder of all He has done in your life, mission accomplished!
Change a Thing (Outro): If you have regrets, please raise your hands. ✋✋✋✋✋. In this track, we are being encouraged not to cry about the past or be afraid for the future. God will take care of us. I pray that our future selves will be better at trusting God than our current selves.
All Day: The breathy quality of Limoblaze's voice really shines in this track. And. I. Love. It! (Yes, you will be hard-pressed to find any of Limoblaze's artistic choices that I don't love and no, it's not just Jane talking). This track is a love song for God. And I just know the Lord must be feeling it. It's like I feel Him smiling when this track is playing. 😁
Wedding Day: Am I Igbo? Because I just found myself picking up the tip of my dress to dance and sway from side to side. I blame Limoblaze. He's making me ethnically confused. So yes, I will probably play this at my wedding.
