I'm a card-carrying member of the Abba fan club, but I don't even know where to start. Maybe all the way at the beginning. Not THAT Beginning. My beginning. The beginning of Abba and me.
When I was 15 years old, I fell in love. I thought I had fallen in love before that, but it felt nothing like it had in the past.
The only way I can describe it is "surety." I know that's a weird description, but there you go.
Yeah, there were euphoric feelings (sometimes), but really, it was just this quiet knowing lodged firmly in the middle of my chest that the God of the Universe knew me and loved me. And I loved Him for it.
As an angsty teenager, I only said like 10% of what I was actually thinking and feeling and, in many ways, I didn't think anyone really saw me.
So, who is Abba, you ask? Abba is El Roi. The God who sees.
When I refer to God as Abba, it's not just because He is my Father, which He is - of course; it's also me trying to encapsulate how I feel about Him. You know how rich kids refer to their emotionally distant parents as Father or Mother (at least in the teen dramas I watch)... yeah so, the opposite of that.
So, who is Abba, you ask? Abba is the very-much-not-emotionally-distant-yet-super-duper-rich Parent you've always wanted. Even if you had two of those, He's Eternal and always with you.
So this post was about trying to introduce you to the most important Person in my life... I feel like I am failing woefully at that, but let me try again.
So, who is Abba, you ask? Abba is the Perfect Creator of the Universe Who always lets you try again. (ICYMI, see what I did there?)
Abba is the God of multiple chances. First He created us to be perfect, then we messed that up. So He gave us the law, and we messed that up. So He had to come in human form and die for us, so that no matter how much we messed up, if we can believe that He would love us enough to come and die for us, we would be saved forever.
I don't know where you are right now in your faith, but nothing else I can ever say or write is as important as these words:
God loves you and He wants you.
Believe that He sent His Son, Jesus to die for you. And that because Jesus resurrected, you have access to a new life.
If you believe (or you want to believe, that's okay too), now say: "Lord Jesus, I believe You. I believe You came and died for me, and I believe I'm free because You say I am. Today, I confess You as my Lord and Savior."
Welcome to the Abba fan club. We've been waiting for you.
So what do you do now? Get yourself a copy of the Bible, and let Abba to lead you to the church community He has for you. That's it. 2 Thessalonians 1:11
