What's in your hand?

What's in your hand?
All things come from God and He, obviously, can create something out of nothing.
Yet, what is in your hand? The Holy Spirit quietly nudges.
You want to start a business this year, but you have no capital to speak of. Yet, I ask, what is in your hand?
What can Abba use?

Moses had a shepherd staff. Abba used it to bring a nation out of captivity.
A boy had 5 loaves and 2 fish. Abba used it to feed >5000 people.
Elisha had a cloak. Abba used it to part rivers.
Samson had a jawbone. David, a slingshot. The widow, borrowed jars. Jael, a tent peg. The Shunnamite woman, extra space.

See... It wasn't about the items. It was about the wielder, willingly to surrender what they had, so that Abba can do His thing.

That Lagos Beat

There is something primal about Lagos.
Even a non-Lagosian like me can't deny the steady heartbeat of this seaport city.
The beat thrums beneath the hustle and bustle of the city, keeping it alive and awake past the wee hours of the morning.
That Lagos beat lures newcomers in like a siren calls to weary sailors, promising: Come, you'll find what you seek.
That Lagos beat coaxes residents with the dream of a tomorrow draped in the finest aso-oke, riding in a G-wagon, ending in a mansion nestled in the affluence of Banana Island.
That Lagos beat is jarring to the ears of suburban-minded folks who prefer a town that sleeps.
Love it or hate it, Lagos pulses unashamedly, daring you to join its beat or quit the dance floor.

Special strength: Just in case.

"Then the Lord gave special strength to Elijah. He ... ran ahead of Ahab’s chariot all the way to the entrance of Jezreel." - 1 Kings 18:46 NLT

Just wanted to float this verse out there. Just in case there's someone out there who wants to do something impossible this year.
Just in case there's someone reading this who doesn't feel ready for the year or even the day.
The Lord gives special strength and He has some in reserve for you. Just ask.

Intimate

I have always been fascinated with the idea of the breath of God and how the Bible plays with the symbolism of God's breath and the wind as measures of His Spirit (Job 33:4, John 20:22, Ezekiel 37:9-10).
Sometimes, the idea of a Spirit might feel intangible and unknowable. But, a breath? Everyone understands that. Everyone feels that.
A breath is intimate. Whether it is a mother blowing on her baby's face or that millisecond before a blushing couple at the altar join lips together in front of their loved ones.
A breath is a moment. It is connection. So when I think of the Breath of God, I think of intimacy. Of all the ways God is mindful of me. Of all the ways He shows up.
I think of care. I think of love.

I don't know. Maybe I'm just in my feelings this morning. Yet the fact remains, that as powerful as the Breath of God is (it did create man, after all), it is just as personal.
I guess my point is: God might be the Creator of the Universe, but He is also your Baba.
God might be the Creator of the Universe, but He is also your Baba.

In His image

Genesis 1:26 & 27 reminded me this morning that we are made in the image of God. And honestly, it is the intentionality for me.
The Bible literally says, "to be like Him." I
t means we have what it takes to be representatives of God.
Yes, we live in a world of sin and hurt and deception and wickedness, and it might seem like it's easier to be bad than be good.
But listen to what God is telling you today: You have what it takes to be a representative of God. You were made to be like Him.
Honestly, it's the intentionality for me.

Happy new year: It's been a while.

Wow, I have missed this. Just sitting at my computer and typing away, without a care in the world. Okay, maybe not that last part. But, with my website turning six this year, I want that to be true. Which means, I want to be more present in this space, regardless of the number of visitors I receive.
So, welcome new and old readers, it's been a while.

Also, happy new year! Pastor Adeboye said something at the beginning of his sermon this morning that I am taking as my word for the year: celebrate.
I don't know, but it felt like that was the word my heart was waiting to hear. Celebrate!
2023, y'all, our year to celebrate.
