GAMT#2: Using the allure of the forbidden, sin used the Law to draw us to its side.
"But sin, finding an opportunity through the commandment [to express itself] produced in me every kind of coveting and selfish desire." Romans 7:8 AMP The Romeo-and-Juliet-effect is a big term used by psychologists to describe an amplified desire for the forbidden. The more limited/restricted/banned something is, the more desirable it becomes. So, using the "thou shalt nots" of the Law, sin made itself into this irresistibly amazing thing and drew us deeper into its clutches. Thank God because He's smarter. Exposing sin for the death it is, He fulfilled the law and showed us something that is actually irresistibly amazing: L-O-V-E. His brand of Love, more specifically. And I couldn't be more smitten. 😍 P.S: There is more where this came from. Read Romans 7 to have your mind blown. |
